Tarby stands 5-foot-11, 145-pounds from a lean frame. Offensively- Even setup, hands high, toe tap for timing. Longer path to the ball, level path with, average extension on finish.Exit velocity peaked at 75 MPH. Defensively- Stays behind the ball, quick release from a short arm-circle, high ¾ slot. 70 MPH arm-strength. Pitching- Uses a high knee lift, quick and clean arm-action, fastball comes from a ¾ slot with arm-side run sitting 77-79 MPH. Shows curveball feel with advanced spin, 71-72. Changeup was 70 with swing and miss potential. Next-level arm.
Tarby, a 2020 right-handed hitting pitcher/ outfielder, stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 135 pounds with room to fill out his frame, ran a 7.29 60.Offensively- Starts with an upright square lower half, hands well above the back shoulder and nearly in the center of the body with the barrel of the bat slightly more than 45-degrees. Initiates the swing with an inward rotation of the front shoulder hands driving straight back getting outside the back shoulder while the front foot has moderate lift with little stride forward. During batting practice showed an approach to drive the ball to all fields, using the opposite field line to the pull side gap. Young hitter that shows some pop but needs to be more consistent with the mechanics. If the hands could stay back a bit longer and not rush ahead of the backside rotation, the exit velocity of 72 MPH should begin to climb. Defensively- Aggressively, but controlled, approaches the ball to the glove side funneling the ball up to the center of the body chest height creating a quality and in sync transfer. Long arm action, traditional for an outfielder, utilizing good leg drive and rotation, but throws will show more carry and increase the velocity if the lead arm could stay tighter which would help get better extension throws. Recorded an arm velocity of 74 MPH on the day. Pitching- Starts center rubber with hands in front of the chest and feet shoulder width apart. Gets to the gathered position by using a minimal slide step to the first base line while the pivot drags more towards the first base side of the rubber hands elevating to chin height. Creates quality separation but does warp the throwing hand a bit, able to stick the landing with the lead toe slightly closed and uses positive toe drag. Throwing from mid ¾ arm slot, the fastball showed some sneaky heavy action. Showed more command of the fastball from the stretch. Fastball velocity topped out at 70 MPH, but with more extension on release should be able to add 3-4 MPH quickly. Curveball showed quality depth with 12-to-6 spin and mostly in the lower outer third of the plate, a difficult spot for hitters to do anything. Velocity of the curveball topped out at 56 MPH. Changeup showed some arm side run and quality depth with a velocity of 67 MPH.
