Stuart stands in at 5-foot-10, 162-pounds with a young, lean, athletic frame. Ran a 5.11 home to first, just shy of his previous best mark of 4.84 set in February 2017. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet wide outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quite stride forward while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved. Could be more aggressive with the lower half generating more torque into the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with a level bat path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Clean fluid swing for a young prospect. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Frames the ball well with a quiet glove and body. Mechanics on throw to second are good staying low with a quick release. Needs to throw downhill more, but will develop with more strength. Blocks the ball well and keeps it in front and makes an athletic move back up to his feet. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 69 MPH and a pop time range of 2.28-2.39. Overall a talented young 2020 grad class prospect to keep an eye on.
Winter Open (February 26, 2017)
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 162 pounds, He ran a 8.16 60 and a 4.84 home-to-1B. Offensively- Open setup with feet just outside his shoulders and bat elevated off back shoulder. Controlled load of the hands as he stride back to even with some internal front side rotation. Aggressive lower half and attacks the zone with a short/compact swing. Line drive results with a peak exit velocity of 77 MPH. Repeats efforts and has a middle of the order mentality. Defensively- Compact secondary setup with hand starting behind the back and working into glove during the catch. Exchanges feet, gaining ground with a slight delay in transfer from glove to hand. Could be more efficient with exchange. Arm strength at 69 MPH with pop times ranging 2.25-2.30. Young player with his offensive skill set ahead of his defense.
