Big Apple Preview (October 15, 2017)
Evangelista is a slightly built 6-foot-0 145 pound SS/RHP. He ran a 7.04 60. Offensively - Just slightly open stance; hands held high. Balanced approach, slight leg kick, with a line drive swing, uses lower half well in approach to the ball. Consistently short swing path with results that play better than his exit Velo, which was 72 MPH off a tee. Defensively- Excellent posture in set-up, showed good body control, hands out in front and low through the ball. Throwing velo was was 75 MPH, with accuracy from the 3B-SS hole. Adequate at SS but may project more at 2B at the collegiate level. Pitching - Max FB 80 MPH, sitting 78 -80 MPH with command to both sides of the plate; CB was 65-67 MPH with some back-up action. Sets up on the 1st base side of the mound, over the top delivery, delivery is choppy, but he did show the ability to repeat it. Strides direct and finishes in an athletic fielding position. Arm works well and some mechanical work may add additional velocity.
