Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Wide, projectable frame with lean build 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. Offensively - Balanced, slightly open stance with wide set up. Hands start relaxed below back shoulder. Rocks weight onto backside before taking controlled, short forward stride. Smooth, low effort swing with some lift. Stays connected and keeps hands inside of the ball. Controlled, high finish. Remains balance throughout. Defensively – Smooth, controlled strides in the OF. Stays under control when moving laterally. Keeps momentum behind ball. Heads stays down to the ball when funneling in with his glove hand. Uses a step behind shuffle to create momentum on throws. Clean arm action with ¾ release point.
April 2017
6-foot-2 with gap power, shows impressive plate discipline and coverage, quick hands. Smooth and fluid through the zone, stays on a level plane, average footspeed. Intelligent defender, gets good jump on contact, takes intelligent lines to the ball, strong, accurate arm.
Unsigned Senior Showcase (October 30, 2016)
Martella-Tasick stands in at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with a tall lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.11 – 60, slightly improved from a 7.12 in June 2016 and a 7.22 in February 2016. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet outside his shoulders in a wide athletic stance. Slight knee bend while leaning toward the pitcher with his hands held behind his back shoulder. On pitch his trigger is a weight shift back with a toe tap forward to a stride while his hands move back into a hitting position. Tendency here to lock out the lead arm causing drag in the swing plane. Lower body rotation is good getting whole body engaged in the swing. Good hand speed getting into the zone which could be quicker with a shorter trigger of the hands pre-pitch. Upward lift through the zone and finishes with a high two handed swing; mixed line drive/flyball results. Recorded an exit velocity of 82 MPH. Defensively- Good footwork and approach to baseball. Crow hop is simple and effective getting the ball from the glove to the throwing position. Arm swing could be longer to gain more power and strength into the throw. Moves left/right well and runs through the baseball well. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 75 MPH, slightly lower than his previously recorded best of 77 MPH.
NY Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Martella-Tasick is a lengthy 6-foot-3 and 170 pound OF. Runs a 7.12 60 (.1 second improvement from 2/2016).Offensively- Hands shoulder height near back part of the back shoulder. Hands don’t move much on load, so they follow a short path to the ball. Bat angle stays around 45 degrees, toe tap, no stride. More of a weight shift to the back can help improve the velocity. Defensively- Comes through ball nicely, ¾ arm slot. Improvements on strength can help improve throwing velocity in the outfield. Arm strength peaked at 77 MPH.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Logan stands 6-foot-3, 170-pounds with a slender frame. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash and increased his exit velocity from 77-80-mph in a few short months since we had seen him last. Offensively- Sets up outside shoulder width and loads up to his toe with a no stride load, bat gets slight tilt and works with incline throughout the zone. Defensively- Fields everything clean out in front and threw it 77-mph from the outfield. With a tall athletic build and the ability to run a 7.22 60-yard dash, Martella-Tasick has some potential to see great gains over the next year.
WNY Pro Holiday Clinic (December 19, 2015)
The 2017 outfielder has a slender 6’3 170 pound frame with a lot of room to fill out. He ran a 4.2 down the line and showed exit velocity of 77 mph. Offensively- At the plate he stands just outside shoulder width and uses a simple heel lift and drop for a load. His hands begin relaxed to near his shoulders and then elevate upon load. His bat drops slightly during launch and creates a slightly uphill path with a high finish. With some simple mechanical tweaks this 2017’s bat speed and power could really jump. The slight hesitation during his load doesn’t allow him to really get the full benefit of the whip he could create with his body. Defensively- In the outfield he sets up nicely behind the ball and shows a good release. Arm slot is about ¾ on some he just needs to finish harder through his throws to generate a little more carry on his ball. Martella-Tasick, with a good projectable frame to build on, and good speed should see some good big gains through his offseason work leading into spring.
