Tall, thick athletic build. Moves well behind the plate and gets to the ground quick to block. Quick transfer with good footwork. Moves well left and right keeping balls in front. Offensively, sets up tall and square with quick hands through the zone. Gap to gap potential with more strength development. In Saturday 10:30am game recorded 4 RBI with a single, walk, and deep sacrifice fly.
Southern Tier Sluggers Workout
Stump, a 2019 right-handed hitting third baseman/RHP, stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs 205 pounds, ran a 8.29 60. Offensively- Starts with a slightly open balanced base with the hands above and in front of the back shoulder with the bat rested on the back shoulder and barrel 45-degrees. Gets to the launch phase of the swing with a lift of the front foot, knee inwardly rotating while driving back and hands buggy whip then are loaded straight back staying slightly inside the back shoulder with the barrel of the bat remaining 45-degrees. Drove the ball, in the lower third of the zone, well from the pull side gap to the middle of the field. Registered an exit velocity of 88 MPH on the day. Defensively- Uses a two step technique during the pre-pitch phase. Approaches the ball with good body control, keeping the hands in front of the body. Transfers the ball from the waist, however, has a tendency to double tap causing a disconnect in sequence between the lower and upper half. Throws showed good accuracy but the carry and velocity, which was 72 MPH, could improve with a more direct transfer and drive from the lower half. Pitching- Worked from the stretch, first base side of the rubber, with the hands coming set in the center of the body chest height. Gets to the gathered position of the delivery lifting the lead foot, knee high, with the lead knee elevating above the waist with some inward rotation while the hands remain chest height. Sticks the landing with the lead toe slightly closed and back leg fully extended. The fastball, thrown from a high ¾ arm slot, topped out at 75 MPH with some heaviness. Located the pitch well to both sides of the plate staying mostly in the lower third of the zone. The change-up, topping out at 69 MPH, showed some arm side run as well as depth.
