Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Well built athletic frame, wide stance on the setup, goes over his head for timing, high knee lift. Arm-swing is back and open to the sky, fast hand-speed out in front with velocity peaking 80 mph. CB has tight late shape at 70-71, has above average depth. Heavy ball. OF – Athletic to the ball, quick movements, accurate throws from a loose arm-action, 85 mph arm-strength. At the plate, strong wide base, fluid bat-path through contact, 80-mph exit velo.
June 25-27, 2018 (NYS Games)
60 Yard Dash: 7.62 Exit Velocity: 85
Projectable Frame, with an athletic appearance. Above average arm from the OF, long carry, uses lower half on his throws. Slightly crouched stance in the box, loads hands back for timing, hips drift forward prior to the hands powering to the ball. Pitching - Solid atheltic type body. Long legs. Steady and smooth tempo from rocker step up to balance. Able to get lower leg drive with slight drop/push techniques. Long arm take away up to high over the top style delivery. Wraps ball behind head on separation. Loose arm action. Tends to open front side early to LH batter box. Finishes in a balanced and controlled position but at times is stiff. CB/SLD has sharp cut action late. Physical strength will improve velo. FB velo was up to 79, sitting 77-78 mph.
Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
Ott shows an ideal athletic build with long limbs and projects size. Offensively- At the plate he uses a slightly open stance, rested with relaxed hands on his shoulder pre-pitch. Strides back to even on the pitch hands power inside the ball, barrel path is slightly uphill with full extension and a long finish, 81 MPH exit velocity off a tee. Defensively- Attacks the ball head on from the outfield position, gets a little quick with his footwork, releases the ball from a high 3/4 slot 75 mph arm strength in the outfield, but expect that number to jump significantly once his body starts working in unison.Pitching- On the mound there's a lot of promise from the young right-handed pitcher. Sound mechanics with a high knee lift, arm is long and loose with velocity projection in his future, 80-82 mph fastball currently. CB checks in at 70-72 MPH with 12-to-6 action.
Campus Series-St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)
Ott stands in at 6-foot-0, 165-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.61 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up in an open stance with his feet shoulder width apart. Shows a slight bend in back knee with an upright torso holding the back just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise into a stride squaring up with the pitcher while his hands move back into his hitting position. Good lower body rotation getting whole body frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with level barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage with line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice. Recorded an exit velocity of 79 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork getting underneath baseball. Has a good transition from glove to throwing hand. Could use a longer arm swing with a more over the top release point to gain power and accuracy from throws in the outfield. Moves well left/right and on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 80 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step and a mid-thigh leg raise. Breaks down well with good arm separation into a high ¾ release point. Utilizes whole body frame well during delivery with consistent mechanics. Has a strong finish getting himself into a proper fielding position. Fastball range was 77-79 MPH and good arm side run. Curveball was 66-67 MPH and showed tight spin and ability to spot for a strike.
