Brinza, a 2019 left-handed hitting pitcher and third baseman, stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs in at solid 150 pounds, ran a 7.80 60. Offensively- Starts with an upright slightly open base with some weight to the backside, hands are in front of the back shoulder with the barrel of the bat greater than 45-degrees. Uses a toe-to-heel movement, without getting the front side closed, while the hands are loaded outside the back shoulder and drop well below the height of the shoulders.Drove the ball well from the middle of the field to the pull side gap, but has much more ability and should show growth over the next few years with some mechanical adjustments. Recorded an exit velocity of 75 MPH, but will increase that when the front side can be closed more consistently as well as keeping the barrel of the bat tighter to the body during approach to the ball which would result in better extension. Defensively- Tentative approach to the ball getting back on the heels with the glove deeper. Funnels the ball up to chest height where the transfer takes place. Throws were accurate but could show more carry and velocity, with more drive and rotation from the back hip as well as keeping the hands a bit closer during the transfer. Recorded an arm velocity of 65 MPH on the day. Pitching- Starts from the center of the rubber with both hands chest high. Gets into the gathered position by taking a pronounced step towards the first base line while the pivot drags across to the first base side as well. At the balanced point of the delivery gets the lead knee chest high while the ball is pulled from the glove and tapped back in before starting approach to the catcher. Lands clean with the front foot, but the lead hip is open. Fastball showed good downward tilt, from a high ¾ arm slot, at a top velocity of 74 MPH. Got under the fastball at times and needs to be tighter with the front side to get better extension and work the outer third of the plate. Curveball showed quality depth, almost a spiking action, while topping out at 75 MPH. Changeup showed quality depth and rotation as well good differential from the fastball at 69 MPH.
