Comments
Blankenship is a slightly built 5-foot-10 135 pound catcher who ran a 7.62 60. Offensively- Sets up in a balanced, even stance with a 45 degree bat angle. Snaps back hands quickly into his load; barrel flattens out early. Minimal heel lift as he stays behind the ball. Aggressive lower half; bat sweeps through the zone, level throughout. Middle of the field approach; line drive results; exit velocity of 72 MPH. Defensively- Behind the plate he stays in a primary setup with transfer from the glove to hand happening late. Arm strength behind the plate was 64 MPH. A more athletic secondary setup with a more efficient transfer will take his improved pop time of 2.15 even lower. Arm action is short with limited glove side rotation. In the OF he was able to make the adjustment to the longer arm action. Controlled approach into the ball; short step through for a crowhop with his arm strength peaking at 74 MPH.
Last Chance Preview Showcase (November 29, 2015)
Jon on checks in at a slight 5-foot-9, 125 pounds with room for physical gains. He ran a 4.81 Home to 1B and had an exit velocity of 77 MPH. Offensively- Jon starts with his feet even, creating proper separation with his load and stride. Delays getting his heel down until swing, sometimes making him late. Showed aggressive lower half with a level planed swing, exiting the hitting zone early. Foundation is there, just in need of some minor adjustments. Defensively- Soft receiver behind the plate and turns over properly on balls in the dirt. Slight delay in throwdowns with throwing hand behind back. Footwork could more in sync and would benefit from glove side rotation. Throws were accurate on the bag. Pop times ranged from 2.38-2.44. In the outfield, aggressive approach with glove getting caught back a bit too far. Sneaks back leg through into crowhop, quick release with accurate throws. Arm strength has time to develop, although at 74 MPH he's in a good spot right now.
