Last Chance Preview – Downstate (October 28, 2018)
Huge frame with wide, squared upper body. Lean build with room for projection at 6-foot-7, 208-pounds. Offensively – Balanced stance with tall, upright posture. Feet start square to pitcher. Short, subtle forward stride. Hands stay loaded beyond back shoulder at landing. Swing has some length due to size/wingspan but remains level thru the zone. Barrel stays behind the ball. Remains balanced throughout. Has chance to create tremendous leverage with high waist and strong lower half. Defensively – Moves well for his size around the bag. Balanced actions with deliberate tempo. Fields ball in wide base with glove hand centered. Keeps hips low and upper body stacked behind the ball. Quick exchange into compact arm action. ¾ release point. Pitching – Smooth delivery with consistent tempo to throwing actions. High leg lift to gather weight into his back hip. Sinks onto backside and creates some shoulder tilt as he gets into forward stride. Glove side stays tight at landing. Long, fluid arm action with high ¾ release point. Additional strength will help be more consistent with balance/extension at finish. Flashed feel for 3-pitch mix. Still some upside left for him to tap into on the mound.
ENY Senior Day (10/20/18)
Long, extended frame at 6-foot-7 200+ pounds. Frame projects well on the mound as plenty of mass can be added. Offensively- Spread setup; extended take back of the hands with a flat barrel. Struggled with consistent contact on the day. Defensively- Active footwork around the bag; able to get body into proper throwing positions while using a shorter, quicker arm swing. Presents plenty of a target with height. Pitching- Angled setup on the mound; uses a straight step back from a hybrid position. Top the chest leg drive; arm action is long and fluid working through a high 3/4 slot. FB has some heaviness to it as he is able to maintain a down angle. Threw several 12-6 curveballs with depth. More in the tank on the mound; sleeper pick for the right program.
