Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Strong, proportional frame with sturdy build. 6-foot, 195-pounds. Offensively – Balanced set-up with some weight pre-shifted onto backside. Front foot slightly open to pitcher. Controlled, low effort swing with quickness in the hands. Barrel works down to the ball before flattening out in the zone. Flashed some lift to his pull-side. Head stays quiet throughout. High, one-handed finish. Defensively – Controlled, deliberate footwork around the bag at 3B. Allows upper body to get parallel to ground while getting into fielding position. Keeps glove hand centered. Low ¾ arm slot with clean arm action. Catcher – Big target behind the dish. Sets up with low hips and upper body staying tall. Consistent direction towards target with feet and glove side. Low exchange with ball before getting into low ¾ release point.
New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Williams stands in at 6-foot; 195 pounds with a tall lean athletic frame. Offensively-Starts slightly open with high hands just behind his head. On pitch his trigger is a step in with an aggressive toe tap. His hands move down and back behind his back shoulder in a good position. Swing plane is short to the hitting zone when both triggers are at the same time. At times his lower body is slow and creates a longer swing plane. Finish his with two hands high around his head with good rotation on bottom half. Rotation could be quicker with the lower body, will improve with added lower body/core strength. Displayed an exit velocity of 85 mph. Defensively-Good approach and footwork fielding the ball. Has a short arm swing and good throwing motion towards target. Tends to double tap at times, can improve with a more aggressive set up towards target. Displayed a position velocity of 75 mph – a 3 mph improvement from the Preseason All-State showcase in February.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Williams stands 6-foot, 195-pounds with a tall lean frame. Offensively- Starts with a wide base and loads to the backside using a small up down stride pattern. Creates good tilt with the bat upon load, hands stay a little high then attack direct to the ball. Lower half works slightly uphill but Jarrod showed good pop at 85-mph exit velocity. Defensively- Showed soft hands and athletic feed around first base. Always worked directly out in front with no excess movement fielding ground balls. Arm strength was at 72 MPH.
Border Battle (October 18, 2015)
Well put together 1B/RHP at 6-foot-0, 2013 pounds. Offensively- Jarrod hits from an open and narrow stance with a slight shift of his weight before contact. Swing path and lower half effort both could stand to be in better spots (shorter swing path, more aggressive lower half). Gets the barrel out and has some pop to his pull side. Defensively- Agile with his footwork on groundballs and around the bag. Quick release on throws to the plate and for the double plays. Pitching- Uses a slight drop step up to a compact balance point. Controlled pace into landing and finishes square to the plate. Arm action is long and works from a high 3/4 slot. Stays down with FB and CB has some 1-7 action to it. Repeats delivery and throws strikes.
