A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average

Physical: Advanced, strong 6-foot-1, 190lb frame with athleticism. 7.14 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, upright stance as the hands operated in controlled rhythm at the shoulder. Utilized a leg lift stride to initiate the barrel through a flat path with lift after impact. Finished higher on the backside, producing a 57% fly ball rate (via Trackman). Able to backspin the baseball with a lofty approach, driving the ball to pull (near 350 foot batted ball distance, doubles power). Profiles as a strong middle of the order type bat with zero groundballs during his round and a T92 mph bat-exit velocity at his peak, generating intent out in front.
Defensively: The outfielder stayed behind the ball with good reads and clean glove hand actions, fielding softly off his left side before holding momentum over the front side. Accurate, H ¾ slot with length on the backside, releasing accurately to the target up to 81 mph arm strength.
Pitching: RHP - The righty started from the middle of the rubber, using adequate pace from a balanced stack to get down the slope with a repeatable operation towards the mitt. H ¾ release and pounded for strikes at 76-79 mph (via Trackman). Mixed in a short-sweeping 67-69 mph CB at 1801rpms, flashing a gradual 11/5 shape into the zone (33% zone rate).
7/16/19
An athletic build. James stands in the box with a wide stance; hands slightly under his back shoulder. Hits through a leg kick and gets to a strong hitting position. Good separation in load leading to his launch position. Athletic hitter shows the ability to use his lower half. Defensively- James shows a good first step in the outfield. He does a very good job of getting behind the ball and catching in-air balls at its highest point. He creates good momentum moving through his target and with an over-the-top arm slot, James is 71 mph velocity from the outfield. James creates an angle with his feet working around the ball on plays to his left and right, putting himself into a position to deliver a strong and accurate throw. Pitching- Throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Simple mechanics, and repeated his motion well. Strike thrower, who worked with good rhythm and was consistently ahead in the count. Commanded his two seem and curve ball well together. two seem has late sink and fade to the bottom of the zone. Nice break on curve ball, with consistent spin. Has a high ceiling on the mound.
