PBR Futures Games (August 4-6, 2016)
Johnson is a lean, athletic middle infielder at 5-foot-10 150-pounds. Ran a 7.34 60. Offensively- Setup is balanced and controlled. Short stride to start swing, hands stay loaded pre-pitch. Average bat speed through the zone, will continue to improve as he gets stronger. Weight transfer is smooth, and athletic in the box. Exit velo 83 mph. Defensively- shows some feel for MIF positions. Feet were quick especially on balls to his gloveside. Strong and compact in all baseball movements, Johnson's throws across the infield were clocked at 79 mph.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Johnson stands 5-foot-10, 150-pounds with a lean athletic frame that will continue to grow in the weight room. He looks to be one of the standout 2018's in the state with a 7.05 60-yard time, a 4.13 down the line and + arm and bat. Offensively- Sets up tall and just outside shoulder width, uses a minimal load and short up down stride pattern. Maintains a short compact stroke with definite pop shown by an 84-mph exit velocity. Showed the ability to consistently barrel balls up and drive the center of the field. Defensively- Shows quick active footwork and a fast hands. Release was from 3/4 arm slot and has been 81-mph across the diamond. With tools across the board Johnson should be a top performer up the middle and worth watching in the next two years.
WNY Pro Holiday Clinic (December 19, 2015)
The 5’10 150 pound SS stood out at the Holiday Clinic with a compact explosive swing and above average speed down the line at a 4.16. Offensively- At the plate he sets up balanced and uses a modified leg kick with little movement up top. He gets good weight transfer and has a compact swing through the zone. The short direct path produced consistent line drive contact. Defensively- In the field he showed good glove and footwork with a strong arm. He throws over the top and follows his throw nicely. The athletic sophomore should be one to keep an eye on as he’s got a projectable frame with next level tools.
WNY All-Star Games (August 27, 2015)
Jake stands at 5-foot-10, 145 pounds, with an athletic body build. He ran a 4.59 Home to 1st from the right-hand side. Defensively- He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a low to high 3/4 arm action, plays through the ball nicely, with some of range, and has accuracy on the target. His arm strength was 73 MPH. Offensively- At the plate his setup is relaxed and balanced stance, mid-range leg kick stride, with a back load. His hands are very compact, swinging on a level plane with good extension through the ball, with a nice high finish. His exit velocity was 75 MPH.
