Shaughnessy stands in at 6-foot-0, 180-pounds with a strong athletic frame. Ran a 8.04 – 60. Offensively- Righty sets up in an open stance with his feet just outside shoulder width. Knees are bent slightly with an upright torso while his hands are held just above his back shoulder with pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a knee raise to stride forward while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved with swing. Quick hands into the hitting zone with good upward lift bat action throughout to a high one handed finish. Flashed some pop to the gaps; recording an exit velocity of 84 MPH . Recorded best exit velocity was 88 MPH in July 2016. Defensively- Gets behind baseball well. Good crow hop mechanics to get into fielding position. Arm swing could be longer and throwing action needs to be more downhill towards throwing target. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 76 MPH, a 1 MPH improvement from July 2016. Will need to improve foot speed to stay in the outfield at the next level.
Western NY Prospect Preview (July 5, 2016)
Jack checks in at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, as an OF/1B. Running a 4.85 home to 1B. Offensively- Jack has an upright stance in the box with a high leg kick into a long stride towards the ball. Creates good separation with his load, putting his hands in a good position to attack the ball. Does not fully involve his legs in his swing, mostly using his upper body. Adding the use of his legs, Jack could improve his exit velocity, which read at 88 MPH. Mostly pull side results; several with lift and carry. Power potential is there. Defensively- Jack for the most part stays behind the ball well; could benefit from storing up his momentum better and carrying it through throw. Accurate arm; 75 MPH but with more in the tank once he can direct his momentum properly.
