Comments
Collura is a highly athletic dual guy in the 2017 class. He was brought into the game late in relief for St. Joe's and was able to sit 80-82. He's been as high as 84mph as of late. Collura impresses both in the outfield and on the mound and will be worth watching through the spring.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Collura shows an athletic-wiry build standing 6-foot-2, 185-pounds with the frame to hold an extra 10/15 pounds. Offensively - wider stance during the setup to a toe-tap for timing on the pitch. Short path to the ball showing above average bat-speed (88 mph) with consistent contact. Some lift to his swing after contact. Defensively - from the OF position he's still raw with his actions but there's an awful lot to like as well. He's quick, not a speeders (7.2 60 yard time), but he's got the range/size to play all three outfield positions. Shows an above average arm (85 mph) with clear signs of more velocity in-the-tank. Exciting WNY prospect to watch develop, from a positional standpoint. Pitching - Collura was one of the more impressive arms we saw Feb 28. He uses a high-leg lift, hands separate near his chest as his leg descends. Collapses some on his back-side while he drives hard towards home. Arm-action is deep and long getting back some towards 2B - works pretty fluid. Throws the ball from a power mid/high 3/4-slot with a fastball sitting 83-84, topping 85 with signs of more to come. Curveball sat 65 mph with some loose early break, sharper action when he throws it out in front more. Changeup shows feel at 73. Super long stride down the mound with good front side pull, finish is athletic over his front knee. Prospect to get out and see this spring.
Western New York Open (July 23, 2015)
Stands at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, with an athletic body build. He ran a 4.64 Home to 1st from the right-hand side. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm action, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target. His arm strength was at 78 MPH. On the mound, he uses a simple side step, balanced delivery, arm action is fairly clean and loose, throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. His fast ball was (80-83). Curveball had a 12 to 6 downward action and changeup had a little late downward action. At the plate his setup is relaxed and balanced stance, short backward tap stride, with a minimal back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level plane with long/full extension through the ball with a shoulder high finish through the ball. His exit velocity was 84 MPH.
