Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)
Wayman stands in at 6-foot-2, 191-pounds with a long, athletic frame. Ran a 7.14 – 60, which is improved from his previously recorded best of 7.27 set in September 2016. Offensively- Lefty sets up square to the pitcher in a wide base with his feet outside his shoulders. Shows a slight knee bend in his back leg while the front leg is straight with his weight distribution shifting towards his backside. He has an upright torso with his hands held above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement prior to delivery. On pitch his trigger is a quick step forward while his hands move back and down slightly to get into his hitting position. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a good upward barrel action throughout into a high two handed finish. Good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved in the swing clearing the hips and locking in on the front side. During his rounds demonstrated consistent contact hitting the ball up the middle and in the right center gap with some lift. Recorded an impressive exit velocity of 95 MPH, a 5 MPH improvement from September 2016. Defensively- Shows athletic footwork going through the baseball. Outfield crow hop is more of the shuffle variety; gaining ground with a proper arm swing and release point. Was accurate with throws into the infield with little wasted movement. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 72 MPH, 2 MPH shy of his previous best of 74 MPH recorded in September 2016.
