May 2018

6-foot-0, RHH 3B with slim, athletic frame.  Flashes an excellent glove that can play at 3B, SS or 2B with a strong arm.  He has a good approach through the ball, with soft hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm action, plays through the ball, and has accuracy on the target. Disonell isn’t going to light up the stat sheet but he is a gamer who comes to play every day.  Lunch pail type player who is an emotional leader for the Plainsmen. 3 for 4 in double header versus Saratoga.

April 2017

Good athlete, and can defend at third. Needs to improve slow roller play but has enough arm to stay there. Competed at the plate, the hands work freely, needs physical strength to his game.
Eastern NY All-Star Game (September 13, 2015)
Stands at 6-foot-0, 145 pounds, with a lean athletic body build.  Defensively - He has a good approach through the ball, with soft hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm action, plays through the ball, and has accuracy on the target.  Pitching - On the mound, he uses a simple side step, clean delivery, arm action is fairly clean and loose, throws with an over the top arm slot. He exhibits good command, fastball maxed at 80 MPH.  Offensively - At the plate his setup is relaxed, short leg kick stride, with minimal load.  His hands are compact, short path on a level plane, with a shoulder high finish with extension through the ball.
Capital Region Open (July 29, 2015)
Devin stands an athletic 6-foot-0, 145-pounds with wide shoulders and room for growth.  Hitting/Infield - At the plate he starts in an athletic stance with feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart, and his hands at shoulder level.  Hands are quiet, with slight raise and stride on the pitch for timing.  Keeps his back side in good position during stride.  Bat path is level through the zone, with some lift through contact.  Gap power now, but expect that to increase as he gains strength and weight.  Showed average fielding ability at SS, but plus range to both sides, and arm strength (76mph) for his age.  Would like to see him learn to circle the ball, and move through his throws.  Pitching - On the mound he was the top arm in his class at the showcase, consistently sitting 79-80mph with his fastball, from the wind-up and stretch. From the wind-up he stands hands chest high, and uses a small side-step and a mid-knee lift to get to his balance point.  Uses modified drop and drive method.  Showed quick hand speed in a high 3/4 arm slot.  Throws downhill.  Has slight upper body recall, but could be corrected by learning to get over his front side.  Breaking ball showed late 1-7 shape.  Very good athlete, with more in the tank on the mound.  Young kid, could be the next big arm out of Shen with some corrections.
