6-foot-0, 160 pound frame, athletic and ran a 7.09 60. Wide base, fields out in front, loose repeatable arm action, 80 mph arm-strength. Moves well laterally. Light feet. In the box, level swing through contact. There's more power in the tank, just needs to add strength. Quick hands, 84 mph exit velo.
Lean athletic frame with projectable body. Loose arm action with a low ¾ release point. Shows a good drive down the mound with consistent arm action. Curveball is consistent in the zone with 11/5 action.
Preseason - Downstate (February 21, 2018)
LaVelle ran 7.42-60 yard dash on lasers, had a positional velocity of 78-MPH arm strength and tested out at an 83-MPH exit velocity off a tee. At the plate he uses a wide, even stance with loose barrel by back shoulder. Little to no stride on the pitch, barrel path is mostly level through the zone, with a full finish. Defensively- uses sound lower half mechanics, fields ball out in front with a very wide base, clean funnel and transfer. Releases from a high 3/4- slot with carry to the bag.
Connecticut Underclass (7/26/17)
6-foot, 145-pound, long, lengthy, athletic frame, wiry strong, has room to fill out. One of the better athletes at this event was impressive on both sides of the field. Offensively- A left-handed hitter, swing is smooth, barrel finds the baseball, approach is from field to field. Look for the power to come as he gets stronger, at the current moment can get the baseball into the gaps. The stance is even and balanced throughout, hands are held slightly lower, hands have separation from body, lower half is under control, stride is straight. The swing is level through the zone, keeps the barrel in the zone a long time, finishes the swing off at shoulder height with two hands. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 83 mph, ran a 4.44 down the line. In game swings were real good, collected a couple hits. Defensively- Prep steps are good, gets around the baseball, moves toward target, works from the ground up. The hands are soft, fields out front, transfer is clean, arm path is short and clean, works out of a ¾ to high ¾ slot. The arm was clocked at 78 mph across the diamond. The footwork on feeds and turns at second are advanced for his age. Big time follow, should be off the board fairly quick, get out and seem him.
