Weiner, 2019 right-handed hitting catcher, stands at 5-foot-9 and weighs a solid 155 pounds, ran a 8.16 60. Offensively- Starts with a narrow open stance and hands starting below the back shoulder. Uses a slight shift of weight as a pre-pitch movement. Initiates the swing with a slight front foot movement towards the pitcher, while getting the hands into a strong loaded position above the back shoulder. Was able to show ability to drive the ball to the opposite field gap. Will be able to create more bat speed and improve on the recorded exit velocity of 70 MPH, when more drive and torque is created with the backside rotation. Defensively- Starts with a primary base of feet shoulder width apart and weight slightly shifted to the left side of the body. Relaxed hand with the elbow below the glove presenting the ball quietly. However, could extend a little more and present the ball further away from the body and not so deep. Throws to second were accurate and could use little more carry. Transfers the ball well keeping the hands above the shoulder, but needs to have the bare hand move quicker to the glove which will help improve on the 2.40 pop time recorded. Arm velocity on the day registered at 63 MPH.
