5-foot-11, 145-pounds, ran a 7.08 60 yard dash, Defensively, moves with a lot of energy, open glove out in front, average release, 71 mph arm-strength from a 3/4 slot. In the box he shows confidence, strong compact hands, level swing plane, 90 mph bat speed. Compact actions in the box. Next-level with bat.
Preseason - Downstate (February 21, 2018)
Ran a 7.15 60-yard dash off lasers showing projected athleticism from the middle infielder. At the plate, slightly open wide stance, hands relaxed on the pre-pitch, as the pitch is delivered the barrel goes upright before attacking ball on a longer barrel path, gets the ball out in front of the plate, barrel has some lift to the plane, full extension producing plenty of bat speed and power projection, 90 mph exit velocity off a tee and we expect to see that number continue to climb. Defensively, very active smooth lower half, quick first step, wide base for the glove out in front as the ball is received, releases from a high 3/4 slot upper 70s mph arm strength across the diamond, would like to see that number continue to increase as the summer months approach.
Fall 2017
Lean frame at 5-foot-8 145 pounds. Consistent contact in BP, as he gets stronger results will carry over. Showed active feet defensively, solid glove and accurate arm. Ran a 7.14 60.
Team Citius Workout
Fichtl stands in at 5-foot-10, 140-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.48 – 60. Offensively- Sets up square to the pitcher with his feet outside his shoulders. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding his hands in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a knee raise in to stride forward while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved and clearing the hips throughout contact. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level bat path throughout into a high two handed finish; occasionally under cutting the ball.. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice rounds when he stayed short. Tends to jump at the ball and will be more fluid with a smoother trigger allowing his head to remain still. Recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH. Defensively- Shows quick athletic footwork getting in front of the baseball. Fluid fielding mechanics with soft hands and a quick transition from the glove to his throwing hand. Has a short infielder arm swing from a low slot while taking aggressive steps towards his intended throwing target. Very fluid defensively that fields well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 77 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step and a high leg raise above hip crease to get into his power position. Good breakdown of lower half before the stride with a loose arm swing into the follow through. Occasional miss to the pull side die to opening front shoulder too soon. Fastball has late movement recorded at 77 MPH, curveball was 63-65 MPH with 12/6 action but needs more work. Change up was recorded at 69-70 MPH with good down and in sinking action on his arm side.
