July 31, 2018 - St. Bonaventure Even setup in the box, back load and slight stride for timing. Path is short to the ball, barrel is mostly level through contact, shoulder height finish, 82 mph exit velo showing improvement from last year. Defensively, fields behind the ball, gets his body through the throws, back arm-action with accuracy to the bag with carry from the OF (79 mph). SS stays behind the ball, slightly deep into his stance, transfer is quick with a straight back arm-action. ¾ arm-slot.
Campus Series-St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)
Alsworth stands in at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.72 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a stride forward while his hands move back into the hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing the hips and getting his whole-body frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with an upward lift barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 78 MPH, a 5 MPH improvement from July 2016. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to the baseball. Good fielding mechanics with his funnel into the chest and transition to the throwing hand. Takes good aggressive footwork towards intended target and moves well left/right and in on the run. Arm strength will get better with more development. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 75 MPH, a 6 MPH improvement from July 2016.
7/6/16
5-foot-9, 145-pound thinner, athletic body frame. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance, in which I would like to see him get consistently more squared up back to even when he strides. Loads with his hands moving slightly past his back shoulder. Swings with a level bat path through the zone. Registered a top exit velocity of 73 mph and ran a 7.26 60-yard dash. In the infield, he shows average footwork, but does a great job fielding the ball out in front of his body. He cradles the ball into his body before transitioning to a ¾ arm slot with 69 mph arm strength.
