Campus Series Niagara University (July 3, 2018) 6-foot-0, 145-pounds with an athletic wiry built. Wide setup at the plate, hands rest on back shoulder, slight load, path is direct to the ball, mostly level plane, 81 mph exit velo. First time seeing him behind the dish, he' athletic enough, glove and mechanics will only improve, arm is above average at 80 mph with a 1.97 pop time and that number will drop even more once he get's the footwork down better. Pitching - Gets the most out of his frame, full effort, high 3/4 slot with a fastball peaking 80.
Well built, athletic looking prospect, ran a 7.42 60. Defensively his actions are mechanically sound, gets the ball out of his glove cleanly, fluid arm to the bag. Simple approach in the box, slight stride, shows some power potential especially once he matures. 83 mph exit velo from a level barrel plane. Pitching: Slender frame with wiry features. High leg kick with a fluid motion downhill. Shows a long take away with good loose feel. Finishes in a balanced position that works over the front knee. Tends to get some lower back leg drive. FB has average arm side run. Has deceptive tendencies with some late life on his FB. Velo will improve with increased physical strength. CB has late drop 12/6 action when he finishes the pitch.
Preseason - East (February 22, 2018)
At the plate he uses an upright narrow stance with the barrel parallel to the ground pre-pitch. he uses a small stride on the pitch for timing, hands go direct to the ball on a mostly level barrel plane, very loose and easy, 82 mph exit velocity with low effort, full extension on his finish. Defensively, mechanically sound with an active lower half, wide base that fields ball out in front with a clean quick funnel and transfer. Throws from an high 3/4 high slot arm strength at 78 mph but expect that number to increase as the summer months approach. On the mound there's a lot to get excited about with the 2020 graduate. mechanics are quick-tempo but repeatable, front knee coils back past the rubber for increased momentum and and drive towards home. arm swing is fluid and consistent, full extension out in front on the high 3/4 release, long front side with shoulder tilt. fastball sits 80-83 mph with plenty more velocity in the tank, curveball shows advanced shape, 11/5 hard late bite, very promising young 2020 right-handed pitcher to keep a close eye on from the Buffalo area.
