Downstate Unsigned Senior (October 21, 2017)
Deitz stands in at 5-foot-11, 172-pounds with an athletic frame. Ran a 7.36 – 60. Offensively- Righty sets up slightly open with his feet shoulder width apart. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat in front of his back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a high knee raise to stride forward squaring up with the pitcher while his hands move back into the hitting position. Gets good lower body rotation utilizing the whole-body frame in the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with an upward lift barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage with gap to gap ability during batting practice rounds. Overall a good swing with a lot of room for growth. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Good approach getting underneath the baseball. Has a good transition from the glove to the throwing position with an appropriate outfielder arm swing. Smooth crow hop mechanics gaining ground throughout the process of the throw. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 80 MPH. Pitching- Righty sets up in the middle of the rubber with a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down well with good separation into a mid ¾ release point. Reliable with his mechanics and gets whole body involved in the pitching delivery. Consistent throwing strikes in the zone with clean mechanics. Fastball range was 79-81 MPH and peaked at 81 MPH with good arm side run. Change-Up was 73 MPH with arm side sink and will need more development to bring velocity off the fastball. Curveball was 67-68 MPH with 12/6 action that featured a tight break.
