Academy Tryouts (November 18, 2018)
Chodkowski stands at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds a lean frame with room to grow. Offensively- Lefty with shoulder width even stance. Transfers weight back to engage, length to stride. Hands relaxed, drop below shoulders with flat barrel path. Exit velocity 79 MPH, shows bat speed during bp. Defensively- Fields behind the ball, smooth glove to hand transfer, throws from a 3/4-slot at a peak of 73 MPH. Pitching- Uses a high leg kick, arm slot over the top with high release point. Shows average tempo throughout delivery. Overall, room for growth in size with ability, big off-season this winter. FB range was 75-77 MPH, SL 69-71 and change up at 70-73 MPH. Added 4 MPH in velocity from January.
WNY Travel Workout (January 16, 2017)
Chodkowski checks in at 6-foot, 155 pounds. Was timed at 4.26 seconds from home to first base. Offensively- Feet are at shoulder width and stance is even. Hands are at shoulder height with body tucked slightly toward pitcher. Uses a lift and replace stride. Hips are rotational to ball. Hands are short to ball with some extension through contact. Swing plane is slightly uphill with high finish. Had a bat exit velocity of 77 MPH off of the tee. Defensively- Moves to ball with short, choppy steps. Sets up with a wide base and fields ball in front of body. Uses a crossover step as hands go directly to throwing position. Had a positional throwing velocity of 67 MPH across the diamond. Pitching- Has a wide base with feet on both ends of rubber. Legs are straight and hands in front of chin. Has a small side step to left and right foot toe taps onto rubber. Knee lift comes to chest height as weight sinks onto back leg. Average stride length that lands directly in line with home plate. Has a full arm circle on the back side. Traditional ¾ arm slot with hand extension towards plate. Fastball sat at 72-73 MPH. Also threw a curveball at 64-65 MPH and a changeup at 66-67 MPH.
