Wiry, athletic 5-foot-9 165 pound MIF that hits from the right side. Ran a 6.88 60 on the day and has been as quick as 6.83. Offensively- Weight preloaded on back side with some pre-pitch bat waggle; explosive lower half with some tilt to his swing; consistent hard contact showing barrel control. Extra base threat if he can consistently find the gaps. Defensively- Controlled approach at SS with average but accurate arm; could be more aggressive to and through the ball. Should be able to handle either side of the second base bag or possible OF move at the next level due to foot speed and offensive potential.
5-foot-9, 160-pounds with a strong frame. Loose actions defensively, 73 mph arm-strength across the diamond. In the box, long swing path. Barrel drops through contact, strength and bat-speed present (88 mph). Quick hands.
6/6/2018:
Sorensen ran a 6.83-60, an improvement from February. Arm Strength measured at 79-MPH from the infield, an improvement of 3-MPH.
Pride Workout (February 10, 2018)
Sorensen is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed middle infielder with an athletic frame. The RHH ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.27 home-to-1B. Offensively- Starts with his front foot open, bat waiving up and down on shoulder with weight overloaded towards back side. Hands quiet down on load, hangs leg and drives toward pitcher. Compact swing, drives hands well through the zone. Stays through the ball and extends well. Gap-to-gap hitter. High, one-handed finish. Defensively- Active feet help him get into a good, athletic fielding position; funnels the ball back towards the belt; moves well laterally. Delivers an accurate throw at 76 MPH across the diamond.
Eastern NY Prospect Preview (August 2, 2016)
Sorensen checks in at 5-foot-8, 150 pounds with athletic, fast twitch actions. He ran a 7.62 60. Offensively- At the plate Sorensen sets up narrow and slightly open with hands just off back shoulder; barrel lift and short load back, coupled with a short stride/leg kick back to even for timing. Aggressive yet balanced through the lower half; moderate swing path to the ball with a repetitive finish. Line drive/flyball results with a propensity for the left center gap. Exit velocity peaked at 78 MPH. Defensively- Gliding actions when moving laterally; stays athletic; slight hesitation after transfer into throwing motion. Can accelerate and cover ground when needed. Middle infield projection over the long term. INF velocity was 73 MPH across the diamond. Pitching- On the mound Sorensen starts to the far glove side using a short drop step to a balance point just above the belt. Moderate length to his arm action, working through a ¾ arm slot. FB sat 75-77 MPH with life and little restriction. CB at times had late action with 1-to-7 shape, 62-65 MPH. A few early rollers but even then the break was substantial enough to get awkward swings. High ceiling on both sides of the ball.
