Flashed fluid actions in the outfield with footwork that arrived on time and played through the baseball. A low center of gravity allowed for a quick first step and smooth transfers led to accurate 77 mph throws from his position. The right-handed pitcher utilized a compact, high ¾ delivery with a long takeaway to sit 76-78 mph showing command of the fastball. Countered with a 72-74 mph cutter thrown with identical arm-speed featuring late, slight horizontal movement. Pitching - Smooth controlled mechanics, long arm-action on the back swing, high 3/4 slot with FB sitting low 70's. Still very young and raw but there are promising signs in the future.
Preseason All-State West (Feb. 19, 2018)
At the plate he uses a shoulder width stance, on the pitch toe taps back, hands use a slight load. Path is long, Barrel swing plane is slightly uphill, full extension with a high finish, 71 mph exit velocity off a tee, we expect that number to jump dramatically over the next year. Defensively, he uses sound mechanics, aggressive to the ball fields out in front with a smooth quick funnel, has the ability to throw from multiple arm slots, arm strength was 72 mph across the diamond. Nice looking ball player from WNY that just needs to physically mature and gain much-needed strength, the good news is there's plenty of time.
Campus Series- Canisius College (July 5, 2017)
Harper stands in at 5-foot-6, 127-pounds with a young athletic frame. Ran a 5.19 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his knees bend and an upright torso holding the back in front of the chest using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick foot raise to stride forward while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and using the whole-body frame in the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level bat path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Recorded an exit velocity of 68 MPH.Fluid swing with a high ceiling for a 2021 grad prospect. Covered the plate well with ability to drive the ball into the outfield. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to baseball. Funnels the ball in quick and has a good transition into the throwing position. Could be quicker with the overall process of getting the ball out, but will come with more development and strength. Moves well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 68 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down well with good separation and arm action into a high ¾ release point. Repeats mechanics well and attacks the strike zone. Will get better with more development. Fastball range was 70-72 MPH and peaked at 74 MPH showing some arm side run. Change-up range was 63-65, which needs more development but does have arm side sink. Curveball range is 57-60, with 2/7 action. Overall a young talented prospect that will turn some heads at an early age. Keep an eye on this 2021 grad.
