A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball

The difference in angle of between the hips and shoulders, occurring close to the foot plant. Measured in degrees.
Physical: 6-0, 175 pounds; Long, slight build. 7.16 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Open setup, with feet shoulder width apart; has a pre-pitch bat waggle. Lifts hands with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing a strong lower half. Showed a compact swing path with a two handed finish. More line drives than flyballs and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 90 MPH via Trackman. Defensively: Starts with an upright /tall setup; walks into ready position while showing active feet. Hands are out in front with a clean transfer. Short take back from a standard 3/4 arm slot. INF - 82 MPH. Pitching: Uses a glove side setup while using an angled drop step. Belt high leg drive with a slight lean over the belt. Has a short stride landing inline with the plate. Long arm swing while wrist hooks behind back; standard 3/4 slot. Square to the plate with finish. FB: Peak velo of 80 MPH, while sitting 76-79 MPH; straight action. SL: 70-72 MPH; short action. CH: 61 MPH; maintains the same plain. OTHER: Sink:75-70 MPH; .
7/26/22
Physical: 5-11, 150 pounds; Athletic, wiry build. 7.33 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet wide spread; has a pre-pitch bat waggle. Loads straight back with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an aggressive lower half. Showed a short swing path with a two handed finish. More line drives than flyballs and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 84 MPH via Trackman. swing repeats with plus bat to ball abilities (100% sweet spot). Defensively: Starts with a balanced setup; walks into ready position while showing active feet. Hands are soft with a seamless transfer. Short take back while using various arm slots. INF - 80 MPH. Pitching: Uses a center rubber setup while using an angled drop step. Mid chest leg drive with a slight lean over the belt. Has a moderate stride while landing slightly open. Moderate arm swing while showing some scap load; low 3/4 slot. Square to the plate with finish. FB: Peak velo of 78 MPH; arm side run. CB: Slurve like action.
7/05/22
Physical: 5-foot-11, 155 pounds; Slender, average build. 7.17 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Open setup, with feet shoulder width apart; bat positioned at a 45 degree angle. Short take back with the hands with a slight leg-kick for timing. Drifts into contact while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a short swing path with a two handed finish. More groundballs than line drives and flyballs with a peak exit velocity of 84 MPH via Trackman. Above average hand speed and on plane efficiency. Defensively: Starts with a balanced setup; uses prep hop while showing choppy feet. Hands work through the ball while funneling to the hip before transfer. Short take back from a low 3/4 arm slot. INF - 76 MPH. Pitching: Uses a center rubber setup while using an angled drop step. Mid chest leg drive with a slight lean over the belt. Has a moderate stride while landing slightly open. Moderate arm swing while showing some scap load; low 3/4 slot. Square to the plate with finish. FB: Peak velo of 78 MPH, while sitting 74-77 MPH; straight action. CB: 54-56 MPH; late action.
7/28/21
Physical: Lengthy, proportional 5-foot-8, 135lb frame with athletic actions. 7.76 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, just inside shoulder-width base with the chest hovering over the plate to start (minor rhythm). Utilized a short lift and replace stride to initiate a direct, slightly uphill path towards a higher two-handed finish. Generated an expected 58% fly ball rate (via Trackman) and created backspin on pitches middle of the plate for distance to the LCF gap (321 foot batted ball, T84 mph bat-exit velocity). Able to get long arms extended out in front with some leverage obtained on the inner half.
Defensively: The shortstop gathered on time off the middle-left side of his body with a flat glove hand playing softly to the ball. Stayed low and finished off throws with the legs getting involved, helping accurate throws carry to the target (H ¾ slot, 71 mph arm, threw well on run).
Pitching: RHP - Set up off the glove side of the rubber from the stretch-only. Came set at an even position (high hands), breaking on-time towards a moderate arm-circle that finished out in front. Firm front-side that allowed for some consistency into the zone from a ¾ slot. The FB landed at 70-72 mph with arm-side run, mixing a commanded 58-60 mph with gradual shape.
