Proportional frame with strong, muscular build at 5-foot-9, 175-pounds. Offensively – Upright, balanced stance with feet square to pitcher. Maintains rhythm/timing with constant bat wiggle before load. Gathers weight on backside with reverse toe-tap before then gets into forward stride. Quick, compact hitting actions. Strong hands at the point of contact. Swing shows lift with high, one-handed finish. Stays within strong lower half throughout. Defensively – In the INF, smooth, deliberate actions. Funnels ball with low hips and keeps glove hand out in front of body. Stays under control when moving laterally. Short, compact arm action with ¾ release. Catcher – New to the position but shows promising actions behind the dish. Low set-up with feet slightly staggered. Comes out of crouch with quickness and body control. Same arm action as INF with noticeable hand speed at release. Should have no issues refining technique.
Unsigned Senior Showcase (October 30, 2016)
May stands at 5-foot-9, 175-pounds with a strong athletic look. Has already lowered his 60-time from a 7.35, to now a 7.23 showing signs of more athleticism to come. Offensively- Fairly simple setup with his hands high, barrel leaning slightly back with his feet shoulder width apart. On the pitch he uses a leg-lift back, almost no load from his hands. Hands drive powerfully to the ball (91 mph exit velo - up 11 mph) with some barrel lift through contact. Finish has extension and balance, gap-to-gap at the next level. Defensively- Keeps lower half wide, semi-active, fields out in front of his body with a quick, clean glove to hand ball transfer. Accurate throws at 76 mph from a high-3/4 slot. Overall, his bat keeps getting better, showing more signs of agility, and with some added focus on arm-strength this winter, May should find himself playing baseball at the next level.
