Last Chance Preview (November 18, 2017)
Sola-Baker stands in at 5-foot-11, 144-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 6.86 – 60, improved from his 7.16 recorded in October 2017. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with a quiet body. Efficient trigger with a quick leg stride while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level barrel path demonstrating solid contact up the middle. Hands get long at times but will clean up when more strength is developed. Smooth swing overall with a lot of room for growth. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH tying his previous high set in October 2017. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to the baseball. Moves efficiently through the baseball making a good transition from glove to the throwing hand. Appropiate outfielder arm swing and moves well left/right. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 77 MPH, a 1 MPH improvement from October 2017. Pitching- Righty sets up on the left side of the rubber with smooth body mechanics pre-pitch. Utilizes a medium height leg raise into a good separation getting good drive down the mound staying closed on the front side. Could engage the lower body more prior to driving down the mound to get more body weight into the pitch. Fastball was recorded 75-76 MPH and peaked at 76 MPH with cut action. Change up was 67-68 MPH with arm side sink and will need a greater velocity difference off the fastball. Curveball was 67-68 MPH with a sharp 12/6 break.
Big Apple Preview (October 9, 2017)
Sola-Baker stands in at 5-foot-11, 144-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.16 – 60. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his knees bent and an upright torso holding the back in front of the chest using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick foot raise to stride forward while his hands move back into a good hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and using the whole-body frame in the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level bat path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage and line drive ability up the middle to the pull side with clean fluid swings. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to the baseball. Needs to be quicker with the transition from the catch to the throw and more movement towards intended target. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 76 MPH. Pitching- Sets up on the left side of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg raise. Breaks down well getting into a good throwing position. Shows good loose arm action with a mid-¾ release point and a strong follow thorough. Fastball range is 72-74 MPH and peaked at 74 MPH showing cut action. Curveball was 64-66 MPH with a sharp 12/6 break. Change-up was 66-67 MPH with arm side sink and will need more development to create greater velocity gap between fastball. Consistent strike thrower with good repeatable mechanics.
