NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Slight 6-foot-3, 160-pound right-hander, clean arm action, uses over the top slot for a fastball at 67-69 MPH that touched 70 MPH, locates ball well, changes eye level, emerging shape on curveball at 62-63 MPH, will want to learn how to use height to create downward plane on fastball.
Downstate Fall Preview (October 2, 2016)
Ogg, a 2019 right-handed pitcher/first-baseman, stands at long and lanky 6-foot-1 and weighs 140 pounds with plenty of room to fill out his frame, ran a 8.12 60 which was 0.4 faster than the previous event attend. Offensively-Starts with an athletic base shoulder width apart. Hands are slightly above the back shoulder with the bat at a 45-degree angle. Shifts weight to the back side while the front foot strides forward towards the pitcher during the launch phase of the swing. Showed the ability to stay short and tight to the ball, driving the middle in pitch to the pull side and using the middle of the field as well. Recorded an exit velocity of 72 MPH, an increase of 6 MPH from the previous event attended. Defensively- From the outfield, showed ability to get the body behind the baseball with a strong athletic base. Throws showed good accuracy, but could use a bit more carry. Long and loose arm action could use more drive from the back hip and rotation, which will help produce more carry. Recorded an arm velocity of 65 MPH an increase of 4 MPH from January. At first base showed fluid and athletic movements. Clean footwork around the base, throws were accurate across the diamond. Recorded an arm velocity of 68 MPH, which will increase once more drive from the backside is generated. Pitching- On the mound Alex sets up center rubber, using a short side step to the glove side from the stretch with the glove remaining directly in front of the chest.. Created long arm action with an easy and loose release. Showed ability to stick the landing and get fairly good extension, with a top fastball velocity of 70 MPH, which was an increase of 7 MPH from the previous event. Mixed in a 2-seam fastball as well as a slider that topped out a 64 MPH and a change-up with a top velocity of 59 MPH. Change-up showed quality depth and spin. Showed a cerebral approach to pitching, working both sides of the plate as well as mixing up the pitches during the live scrimmage.
