Albany commit. 6-foot-3, 178-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Rides his stride to contact while getting on plane quickly. Showed gap-to-gap approach with a feel for back spin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 93 mph and ran a 6.88 60-yard dash. Displayed capable defensive actions at third base and in the outfield. The long, lean prospect has room to add weight and strength to his frame allowing for multiple defensive options moving forward. 87 mph arm strength at both positons will allow for plenty of options moving forward.
6/25/19
An athletic build at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, projectable frame. Ran a 7.16 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box in a tall stance. Loose hands. Stays under control. Has a slight leg lift and takes a short stride towards the pitcher before attacking the hitting zone. Clears his hips before the point of contact. Displayed hard consistent contact to the middle of the field. Gets full extension after the point of contact. Top exit velocity was 90 MPH. Defensively- Gets himself in a good fielding position. Has an athletic approach to the baseball. Under control, fields the ball slightly off center. Above average funnel actions. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Moves well laterally. Top throwing velocity was 82 MPH. Pitching- Displayed a repeatable delivery. Takes his time to gather himself into a balanced backside and drives downhill, low effort. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Showed good FB command that ranged from 80-82 MPH and peaked at 83 MPH. Showed feel for a CB down in the zone with a tight spin at 63-66 MPH. The 2020 graduate is a must follow.
ENY ASG (September 15, 2018)
6-foot-2, 170-pounds with a projectable frame. Ran a 7.28 60 Yard Dash. Offensively - Starts in balanced stance, slightly open to the pitcher with weight shifted onto back leg. Subtle leg lift to get into forward move. Hands consistently stay inside the ball and swing produces hard line-drive contact. Loose and balanced finish to the swing. Projects to add more power as he grows into his body. Exit Velocity was 88 MPH. Defensively - Smooth footwork with balanced fielding actions. Plays low for a taller SS. Maintains body control when moving laterally. Smooth arm action. Low 3/4 slot that he showed the ability to manipulate. Arm strength was 82 MPH. Pitching - Mechanically sound delivery with balanced throwing actions. Stays tall on backside while working down the slope. Clean, projectable arm action. High 3/4 release point. Aggressive finish with consistent extension out over front leg. FB sat 78-79 MPH and peaked at 80 MPH. Also mixed in a CB at 60-62 MPH. Legitimate 2-way prospect at the next level.
Lean athletic looking frame, easy weight projection from a strong build. Very projectable body. Defensively he's active, his movements are smooth and he's aggressive to the ball, next-level defender with plus arm across the diamond. Good load/actions in the box producing gap-to-gap easy power. Barrell is loose and quick to the ball. Power potential in his future. Overall balanced body control from the start to finish of the swing. Pitching -
Wide frame with lots of projection. Uses a short, compact arm slot from a high 3/4 release. Smooth and low effort delivery. FB (peaked 81mph) comes out of hand easy and has better life when he can keep it down in the zone. Still developing command of his CB. Should turn into a useable pitch but it was backing up on him and had loose spin during this outing. Overall he has good actions and potential on the mound but just needs to get stronger and grow into his body more.
Preseason All-State (February 21, 2018)
Standing 6-foot-2, 170-pounds from a lean projectable build. On the mound there's clear signs for more to come. Mechanics are slightly choppy, coils up prior to driving towards home. Long clean arm-action on both back and front side, release from a high 3/4 slot, fastball jumps at 82-84 peaking 84 mph, arm-side tail. Curveball loose at times did show late 12/6 shape sitting 64-65. Very athletic arm that projects to throw harder. At the plate, fluid repeatable swing path, slightly uphill through contact, easy power projection with an 86 mph exit velocity. Defensively, stays behind the ball and gets his body through throws, fields with glove away from body, fast transfer, 83 mph arm strength. Solid all around player.
Long Island Top Prospect (January 16, 2017) Ungar, a 2020 right-handed hitting infielder/RHP currently ranked as the 5th best middle infielder prospect for the class of 2020, stands at 6-foot-0 and weighs 155 pounds, ran a 4.64 from home to first.Offensively- Starts with an upright square lower half with the weight centered while the hands are held slightly above and in front of the back shoulder with the barrel of the bat slightly more than parallel to the ground. Gets to the launch phase of the swing with a slight shift of weight to the backside while the lead foot is lifted and knee makes an inward rotation and the hands are loaded straight back well outside the back shoulder. During batting practice, showed the ability to keep the hands compact and tight to the ball, showing glimpses of driving the ball well from the pull side gap to the opposite field gap. Lower half gets locked up a bit during and thru contact. Recorded an exit velocity of 70 MPH, which would improve with an ability to keep the hips more level with a deeper back knee which would help prevent the body to elevate during contact. Defensively- Uses a step hop pre-pitch technique keeping the hands inside the body. Fields the ball out in front of the body from the center to left side with smooth, fluid, athletic movements. Transfers the ball from the center of the body chest height with both thumbs down but the throwing arm gets longer action coming down to the hip and then back up to the throwing shoulder. Throws showed plus carry and velocity with an arm velocity 76 MPH.
