Profile: 6-foot-4, 195 pounds. Developed, proportionate build. Understands how to use his long lever well in his delivery. Confidence and solidified mechanics have allowed him to seen velocity jumps as well as consistency improvements in his strike throwing ability. Committed to Arizona the night before his appearance on the mound, he was able to have a free and easy outing where he set a new velocity PR.

Delivery:  Starts tall and narrow on the far right side of the rubber. Rhythmic, toe tap motion into a chest high peaking leg kick. Sinks into a drop and drive delivery type with an on line stride. Good extension after follow through with some fall off towards the third base line. 
Arm Action: Short, quick arm action. High 3/4 arm slot. When his arm is on time, he has the ability to dominate. Some inconsistencies with his timing cause him to be around the zone, but is much improved over the past few months to simplify and find as consistent rhythm.

FB: Max 91 mph. Sat 88-90 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 1910 RPM. Natural downhill action. Some arm side action. Located well down in the zone.

CB:  67-70 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 1953 RPM. Quality shape. Flashes some late action as he releases it farther out front. Does tend to short arm. Could be a potential above average pitch down the road.

CH: 70-72 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 1829 RPM. Some slower arm action. Natural sink and fade. Located well down in the zone. Still a developing pitch.

6-foot-3 175. Reed has a definite projectable body with a high waist and long levers that will put him in the prospect category for 2021 being that he is left-handed. Reed showcased 3 pitches, FB, CB, CH, all showing plus at times. Reed did struggle with strike zone consistency and will have to improve his control if he wants to standout in the 2021 class. Reed showed athleticism as he moved well through his delivery displaying solid mechanics that forecast him to be a potential left-handed power pitcher. He has a high 3/4 arm slot with his FB ranging 81-85 with good carrying spin. His arm slot also allows him to throw a CB, 64-69, with good spin as well with 11/5 break. Reed also flashed some changeups with plus feel, 70-72, with good deception off his FB. The future is bright for Reed Schaeffer and will be a fun one to watch develop the next couple years.

11/14/18-Projectable, 6-foot-2, 165, Schaefer has room to add weight and strength.  He is a serviceable first baseman with instincts for the position, picking balls in the dirt and footwork around the bag.  He will need to develop his hands and ability to throw from multiple angle to create more fluidity for the position.  At the plate, he maintains a simple approach with a “foot up, foot down” stride and solid weight transfer to accompany a “handsy swing”.  He relies heavily on leverage to provide carry, but ball flight is hindered by limited extension. On the mound, he repeats a well-paced delivery from a high ¾ release.  He is an upright, short strider providing an opportunity to gain more form his lower half in spite of some current effort to his overall delivery.  He maintains arm speed on all pitches with a straight fastball that ranged 77-80.  He displayed solid feel for an overhand breaking ball, coming in 63-64 and a fading changeup, 67-68.  Schaeffer demonstrated good zone feel with a 3 pitch mix.  Schaefer future very likely resides on the mound.
