The Nova Scotia product made the trip East and showed why he and his teammates captured gold last year at the Canada Cup. On the mound, McLaughlin has added strength and velocity as the heater was up to 86 mph and worked in the 83-85 range, up from his 80-81 last August. It's a 3 pitch mix with ability to throw strikes from a clean and repeatable delivery, the arm works in the back and gets on time and out front. The curveball has shape and depth while the changeup would show fading action. He pounded the zone and even featured a cut fastball. At the plate, it is from the left side and a balanced approach, small load with minimal movement, line drive approach and looks to stay inside the ball. Arm strength displayed from the outfield where he was 89 mph. Really like the upside on the mound with room to develop and grow. You know the compete level is there and with high academics, a definite guy to be on to add to your 20' recruiting class.
