After going 5-1, 2.73 with 64 strikeouts and eight walks in 52.2 innings as a 2YR FR this spring at Monmouth, Dombroski has taken the Cape by storm, emerging as the front-runner for the league’s pitcher of the year award. Over six outings, he is 3-0, 0.85 with an absurd 45-2 K-BB mark in 31.2 innings. With a large, durable from at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Dombroski repeats his balanced delivery well and fills up the zone at 87-91 mph from a three-quarters slot. He excels at busting righties in but can also run his two-seamer off the plate to his arm side. Dombroski also mixes three secondary pitches effectively, showing particularly good feel for a putaway 78-80 mph slider with good tilt, which is effective against lefties or as a back-foot chase pitch to righties. He’ll also mix in a fringy three-quarters curve in the mid-70s and a fringy to average changeup at 82-84 to induce weak contact against righties. As a big-bodied lefty with plus to double-plus control and plenty of mound presence, Dombroski has worked his way comfortably into the top 10 rounds on follow lists heading into the spring, with a chance to land in the four-to-seven-round range.
