A thick, durable 6-foot-3, 230-pound lefthander, Coady has starred in the Harwich bullpen this summer after Penn’s spring season was limited to 14 games by the Ivy League’s COVID caution. In 12.1 innings this summer, he has a 21-3 K-BB mark, a 2.18 ERA and five saves. Coady works downhill from a high three-quarters slot with an 89-90 mph fastball with average spin rates in the 2200s. Well balanced and compact through his core and lower half, Coady’s arm action is on the long side, but he does a decent job staying on time with each of his three offerings. His 80-81 mph changeup has slight arm-side fade, and his 75-76 breaking ball has good 1-to-7 depth at its best but was inconsistent in our viewing. Coady lacks a true knockout offering but has the makings of a nice three-pitch mix and the ability to miss bats and limit hard contact, making him a follow with day two potential for the 2022 draft.
