Willis is a stocky 5-foot-11 180-pounds. has a quick arm, and even quicker tempo/delivery. Sitting 87-89 and touching 90, the Vanderbilt commit mixed in a hard 11/5 slider that had fastball-like hand speed.
6/10/15 -- Willis is a 5-foot-11 RHP who has a very prestigious baseball background for such a young prospect. He was featured in an article earlier this spring: On the Recruiting Trail with Justin Willis. Willis has a loose, short elbow climb arm action and is very up-tempo, which could be a good and bad thing for the young RHP. As he continues to pitch, he will learn when to slow the game down and catch his breathe. He pitched at 85-87 miles-per-hour and showed above average spin on a 72-75 MPH curveball. His stuff was much better during the high school season, touching as high as 90 miles-per-hour this spring. There is a lot to like about Willis and he will continue to be heavily pursued this summer.
8-1-2018: Quick, loose and athletic. Everything the 5’11/180 pound righty does has another gear to it. Working from a low ¾ slot, Willis was running his fastball up to 92 mph and sitting 90-91 with consistent life and some run. He may not have the biggest frame, but given his youth and athleticism, it’s fair to assume he could run that velo up to the mid-90’s at some point. His best offering on display was a tight breaking ball at 77-79 mph. Showed the ability to consistently manipulate the shape and location of the pitch. At times it had more 10/4 break when back-dooring or going for a called strike. Also showed 11/5 action with more depth when he needed a swing and miss. In each instance, the spin is tight and he throws with consistent fastball arm speed. Struck out two and walked one in his inning of work. This summer in 22.1 IP he’s punched out 39, but also given up 15 free passes. Good competitor on the mound who will be a lot of fun to watch develop over the next few seasons. (D Jurik)
