Cape Cod- Starred at Penn before choosing to work out on his own this spring when the Ivy League canceled its season, and he'll transfer to NC State for next season, assuming he doesn't sign with the Red Sox as a 20th-round pick. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder is a solid athlete with playable footwork and actions on the left side of the infield. He has a simple, quiet setup from the right side, and he showed off some strength with a laser home run to left field that exited the bat at 103 mph, though that was his only homer of the summer thus far. With 29 strikeouts against four walks, Hood hasn't shown very good plate discipline this summer, but he also did not get reps this spring and could still be working his way into form. With his track record and solid all-around tool set, Hood should be an impact player on NC State's infield next spring.

PROCASE

6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. On the mound, pitches out of a plus ¾ arm slot. The hand speed is legit, coil at the top and he spins off at release. The movements are athletic and he repeats the delivery. Profiles a FB/SL bullpen type at the next level. The fastball touched 90 mph and the spin pitch got up to 77 mph. The spin can be shortened so it becomes a legit out pitch at the next level. Offensively, tee exit velocity of 96 mph. The hands are strong and fast. Hits out of a even footed stance. The bat path is flat and strong through the zone. Uses a 1-handed finish after contact.  The glove is solid in the infield and he has plenty of arm strength. Threw 93 mph across the diamond with plenty of carry. Good looking prospect for me.  Did not run as he was coming off a leg injury.
