Vega has an athletic build at 5-foot-9 165-pounds. Fastball sat 82-83 touching 84-85. Showed a hard slider/cutter breaking ball at 78-80 with minimal break. Wind up is in rhythm - shows athleticism in landing. Over-the-top slot, Long arm action - minimal effort in delivery. Finish is square, but tends to drift toward first base. If he can keep consistent stability in landing leg/foot, it can help maintain consistent arm slots for command of strike zone. Uphill shoulders at balance point and going down the mound helps him get some leverage and extension.
New Jersey Games (July 23-25, 2016)
Vega is an athletic 5-foot-9 165-pound RHP. Throws from a high-3/4 slot with some run on fastball. Topped at 86, but sat primarily 82-83 for his outing. Flashed a breaking ball at 69 and a changeup at 74-75, both thrown for strikes. Vega does a great job getting leverage going down the mound with a high gloveside. Shows some effort in delivery, with a quick arm. Uses legs well, rhythm is smooth and shoulders are uphill upon first foot strike. Finish is square and athletic.
Winter Trials South (January 30, 2016)
Jared is an athletic 5-foot-9 165 pound RHP/OF who ran a 4.07 home-to-1B. Offensively- Jared sets up from an even position with a slight stride forward, taking some towards the front leg. Lifts bat from shoulder to a 45 degree angle before creating separation with his load. Hands lead swing with some minor extension of his lead arm (barring out) before contact. Gets on top of the high strike with a short stroke. Line drive results with a 81 MPH Exit velocity. Repeats efforts at the plate. Defensively- Jared showed controlled aggression within his approach to the ball. Utilizes the crowhop to get into proper throwing position. Throws had plenty of life and carry with a peak positional velocity of 84 MPH. Pitching- On the mound Jared uses a slight side step up to a mid chest balance point with a slight coil sealing off from the plate. Stays soft and closed into landing with a high 3/4 arm slot. Some collapse on front side may absorb some of his downhill angle and take away from back leg drive. Arm works free and easy sitting 82-83 MPH (topping 84MPH) and was mostly arm side with FB. Needs additional feel for off-speed, change up checked in at 74-75 MPH with his slider at 74-77 MPH. Potential dual threat at the next level that shows a touch more polish on the mound presently.
