Kurtz has a lean and athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.03 seconds. Recorded an exit velo of 83 MPH. Starts at the dish with his feet even and weight shifted onto his backside. Hands are in line with his back shoulder. Minimal, quick stride. Creates pre-pitch rhythm. Hands stay locked in position. Swings with controlled aggression. Quick hands, created many line drives. High finish. Took defensive reps in the infield. Recorded a positional velo of 73 MPH. Bouncy movements to the ball. Makes a quick transfer around midsection height. Is able to change his arm angle on throws depending on body position. Consistently accurate throws.
Futures Preview North ( June 3, 2017)
Average sized right handed hitter. Kutz is 5-foot-8, 150-pounds. He ran a 7.30 60-yard dash. At the primary position of shortstop, he had a 72 MPH velocity with carry to first base. Defensively he showed average hands, with fluid fielding motion. Transfer was choppy. Kutz batted from a slightly open and crouched stance with a quick load and stiff follow through. Exit velocity off the bat was 71 MPH. Showed versatility playing at both shortstop and second.
