St. John's recruit. One of the top overall catchers in the 2018 class. Lean, physical build. Pop times 1.88-1.91 between innings. Polished exchange and release. Gains ground toward 2B on throws. Throws were on bag with backspin and impressive life out of hand. At the plate, sets up in a wide stance and in a crouch. Hands in line with back shoulder with bat around head. Small foot lift and stride. Short, compact swing. Quiet, yet under control swing and finish.
7/28/15 -- Wetterau displayed excellent arm strength and was by far the best catcher at All Out Scout Day, popping 1.93-2.0 down to second on the bag.
6/21-6/23/15 -- Colin is one of the best 2018 prospects at this time, probably the top catcher I’ve seen in his class. He has a slim frame right now but could very well add strength indicated by his brother’s strong frame. He is a very advanced catcher for his age, calling his own game at the 17U level. He has a great set up and is an excellent receiver. He blocks the baseball well with great anticipation of the breaking ball in the dirt. He has a very strong arm, throwing out two base runners in his weekend debut behind the dish. Although I did not have the stop watch on his in-game throws, he was consistently 1.97 to 2.05 and on the bag between innings. He hits from the left side and has a smooth stroke typical of a left-handed hitter. He does get a bit “big” in the box with his leg kick but he does show a good amount of power potential to his pull side.
6/13/15 -- Wetterau is a very athletic catcher who receives well and showed the ability to block the ball to both sides. He has good anticipation of the ball in the dirt with two strikes. Between innings, he showed good footwork and a strong arm, popping times of 2.06 and 2.08 down to second base. At the plate, Wetterau hits from the left side and has a smooth stroke. He starts slightly open and utilizes a leg kick for timing. He has lift in his swing and generates a good amount of back spin.
