2/16/19: A converted catcher, Adcock is now a two-way power threat for the Phoenix. He has a strong frame at 6 feet, 213 pounds, hits in the middle of the order and comes out of the bullpen throwing gas. He was summoned on Saturday for his first appearance with one out in the ninth inning and two runners on. The first batter ambushed a 94 mph fastball for a single, but Adcock proceeded to get a strikeout and groundout to end the game. He threw just eight pitches, six for strikes. He went out of the windup with the bases loaded, using a slight rocker step to get started. He stays compact in his delivery, coming through a high-3/4 slot with quick arm speed and slight effort. His fastball ranged from 93-97 with life and garnered swings and misses up in the zone. He threw a couple sliders in the low 80s, but didn't land them. As a hitter, Adcock can punish the baseball. He registered a 110 mph exit velocity on a double on Friday and then launched a home run that was 107 off the bat on Saturday. (Rode)
8/5/18: 6’0/200 pounds. Stocky, thick frame yet quick and fluid actions. Strong throughout his lower half and core. Limited physical projection remains. Quality athlete who also displayed bat speed and power during the Home Run Derby. He was a two-way guy during his sophomore year but it seems the upside is considerably higher on the mound. Simple delivery with a short, controlled stride. Showed the best arm strength of any pitcher during the All-Star game showcase. Fastball sat 93-94 mph during bullpen session and was as high as 95-96 on a few offerings. Relatively straight but shows quality life. Lightning quick, compact arm action with some deception. release point. Hides the ball well before it explodes from right behind his ear. Also mixed in a tight slider at 79-81 mph with bite. Changeup is developing as a third offering and sat 85-86 mph. More of a control pitcher than pure command. Focusing exclusively on pitching should help development considerably. Overall, Adcock is a low mileage power arm who could be even better this spring. (D Jurik)
