Transferred to St. Johns River State (FL)
10/23/15 - Went five innings, allowing just two walks while striking out six. He relied heavily on his fastball, which sat 89-91 mph and touched 92, generating several swings and misses early in the game. He didn’t mix in any secondary stuff until the second inning, when he broke out his mid-70s breaking ball with lateral action. Haire has a good, physical frame at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds.
Haire hails from the same high school program that produced World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner. A South Carolina recruit, he stands at a strong 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He pitches slightly across his body, lining up on the third-base side of the rubber and landing in the middle of the mound. He’s deliberate in his delivery with a quick, loose arm and good extension. At East Coast Pro and Area Codes, he sat in the 88-92 range with his fastball, then was 86-89, touching 90 at the Met Classic. His command comes and goes, but he has a sharp slider in the mid 70s that is a swing-and-miss pitch for him. Across four appearances (two at Area Codes), Haire allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits, five walks and a hit batter in 10 innings. Four hits and four walks came at the Met Classic. He struck out 13 total.
8/15/15 - Worked a perfect eighth inning, sitting 90-93 with his fastball. His breaking ball was inconsistent and seemingly morphed between a curveball and slider, but it flashed sharpness and sat 75-77. He struck out one.
8/5/15 - Pitched two innings for the Nationals, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out four while sitting 89-91 and mixing in a sharp curveball from 73-76 with depth and 1/7 shape. He lands slightly closed, but got a ton of swings and misses on the curveball.
