Missouri’s top eligible position prospect, Austin, showed hit ability and power potential with a 5-for-12 Showdown which included three extra base hits. As usual, his approach at the plate was selective, yet aggressive and he generated above average bat speed. The compact built (5-foot-10/190 pounds) right handed hitter is also an average runner underway and looked to be an average defender in left field. He has also looked average as a defender at second base in the past. However, it’s all about the bat for him. He’s what the industry refers to as a “performance pick” and not one that oozes tools or high projection. Austin has the tools, skills and resume (.297/.417/.476 in 2022) to be considered for mid-Day Two in 2023, but he must perform at a high level this season.
vs Illinois State: Missouri’s top position prospect, Trevor Austin, showed hit ability and power potential with four hits in six at-bats, including a hard shot to left field off a hanging slider for a two-run home run. Austin’s approach at the plate was selective, yet aggressive and he generated above average bat speed. The compact built (5-foot-10/190 pounds) right handed hitter also looked to be an average runner underway and an average defender at the keystone. He has the tools, skills and resume (.297/.417/.476 in 2022) to be considered for mid-Day Two in 2023.
NPI- Austin impressed with consistent, hard contact and good bat speed at the plate. Also an instinctive defender, he showed good range and ran above average down the line on an infield single to short.
