6/13/17 - Payne is a lean 6-foot-2 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.58 laser timed 60 and a 5.17 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, in line stance, loaded in back leg pre swing, rhythm in hands, some load in hands, swing produces middle to pull side contact during batting practice.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.09 and 2.37-seconds, 74 mph positional velo, flexible, gives low target, quick catch and throw, short over the top release, mostly accurate throws with a clean exchange. On the mound, Payne has a high three quarters arm slot, controlled delivery, in line down the mound, strong build, throws with regular effort, fastball at 73-76 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, 65-66 mph.

At the plate, swing produced a high percentage of pull side line drives, square set up, fluid pre swing rhythm, in line stride, efficient load, hands control the bat, body stays balanced.  Behind the plate, 2.13 to 2.19 pop times, 75 mph positional velo, clean exchange, over the top release, throws somewhat accurate, flashing carry.

2/19/17 - Payne is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Payne has an over the top release, smooth tempo in delivery, over the top release, body stays under control throwing with regular effort, fastball at 76-79 mph, straight, 11-to-5 shaped breaking ball, gradual break, change up at 69-70, slight sinking action.
