The nephew of former Major Leaguer Matt Cepicky, CJ is a five-tool prospect with the potential to hit for both average and power. A plus athlete, he has solid tools across the board, with run speed as his top tool. It grades out as above average-to-plus underway. He also will show an above average arm and projects to be a future above average defender on either corner with the possibility of patrolling the big field on a part-time basis. In the batter’s box, his swing showed immense improvement since my first look in June of 2019 at the National Program Invite at LakePoint, GA and then again at the February 2020 Super 60. His swing can get stiff, two-part and pushy when he gets too focused on going the opposite way. On this most recent look it was much more free, loose and he used all fields, unafraid to just let the bat head fly. With normal development, Cepicky could become a Day One prospect for the 2023 draft.

Positional Profile: OF Body: 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. Highly athletic and projectable frame, athletic fast twitch levers. Defense: Attacks the baseball, plays through in stride, clean exchange, quick feet. Arm: RH. OF - 88 mph. Loose arm action, high 3/4 slot, arm carries and played accurate. Hit: RHH. Balanced stance, short stride, simple setup and trigger. Strong balance through contact. Plus bat speed, hands are strong and initiates bat speed, loose and easy bat. Creates hard contact, jumps off the bat. Power: 98 mph exit velocity from the tee. Pull side power bat, well above average power to pull side. Run: 6.90 runner in the 60. Athletic gait, easy runner.
8/4/18 - Cepicky is 6-foot-3 and 170-pounds with plenty of room to add muscle. He is an athletic right-handed hitting outfielder than can play in any of the three positions. His 6.67 60 can keep him in centerfield and he shows to be a potential power bat as well as indicated by his 94 mph exit velocity. He aslo showed arm strength with an 89 mph positional velocity. His athleticism, build and ability to play game will make him a highly sought after prospect.
2/10/18 - Cepicky is a long and lean 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 6.97 60 and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, hands separate from stride, quick hand with fast bat speed, body stays under control, consistent hard contact during hitting evaluations. In the outfield, 87 mph positional velocity, aggressive thrower, over the top release, momentum through the catch, feet and hands in sync during exchange, loose arm action, quick actions. On the infield, 85 mph positional velocity, smooth actions to the ball, gains ground with feet after the catch, throws with over the top release, loose and quick arm action, mostly accurate throws with carry.
