Jabin Bates: SS/C, (2021) Grand Rapids Catholic Central, MI. 5-foot-8, 145-pound. During batting practice, Bates had a max exit velocity of 87 mph. Has a toe tap before his swing. Had level swing plane and had good extension on his finish. Found some barrels through his round. Up the middle approach. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.03-2.15, he made throws to second at velocities up to 74 mph. Capable while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 74 mph; has consistent feet, consistent hands and a natural fluid exchange. Laterally, movements were average and fielded the ball out front. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.44.
Hitting: At the plate a switch hitter on the right side sets up with a slight open stance keeping his hands back showing some motion prior to his load. Gets his hands to the ball quickly making solid contact. On the left side has a balance stance keeping his hands and hitting zone showcasing the ability to get his wrist to the ball. Easy effort smooth swing path with the ball jumping off of his barrel.
Fielding: Behind the dish shows quick feet, coming out of the crouch throwing down to 2B. 2.04-2.07 pop time while throwing 72 mph. In the infield threw 78 mph across the diamond.
Hitting: Balanced stance at the plate getting his backside engaged well in the swing. Short compact cut, producing line drives. Top of the order hitter. 79 mph exit velocity.
Fielding: Behind the plate sets up with a wide base keeping his receiving arm flexible. Moves out the crouch quickly throwing down to 2B. 2.03-2.11 pop time while throwing 73 mph. In the infield shows a quick first step working towards the ball, funneling the ball smoothly and throwing 70 mph across the infield.
