During batting practice, the left-handed hitter displayed an exit velocity of 95 MPH, with a (65.5 mph bat speed average) and (22.5 mph hand speed average). He hits out of an open, wide stance with the hands relaxed just off the back shoulder. A smoothe load and a toe tap trigger a swing that takes an upward path through the zone into his extension. During the round, he showed a quick bat and pop to the pull side. In the infield, Burns was up to 73 MPH on his throws across the diamond. While fielding the ground balls, he shows a clean exchange, smooth, consistent feet, and sure hands.
Burns is a 5-foot-10, 220 pound left-handed hitting infield prospect. He hits out of a slightly open stance, with the chest leaning over his feet. The bat starts resting on his back shoulder and ends up in a strong launch position as he loads. The bat travels along a slightly uphill path through the hitting zone, producing an exit velocity of 89 MPH and a lot of loud contact. He stays through contact well and uses the middle of the field.
Defensively, Burns was 64 MPH on his throws across the diamond. He gets into a good fielding position, breaking down well behind the ground ball. His hands are soft transitioning through the play and into the throwing motion. He finishes through each play, using a lower arm slot to work the ball across the field.
