The swing is level through the zone, more of a pull approach, gets rotation at times, needs to stay middle a bit more. The exit velocity was clocked at 92 mph, showing plus pop to pull side. Defensively, threw an easy 85 mph from outfield, super clean arm action form higher slot. The approach is under control, gains ground. Off the mound, pounded the zone with a three pitch mix, fastball reached 82 mph, heavy ball with bore run to it. The breaking ball shows plus spin, with velocity clocked at 72 mph. The delivery is clean, weight over backside, loads up, direction is inline and works downhill. Worked a clean inning with multiple swing and misses. Love him off the bump, plenty of room for growth.

Shurtleff is a big, strong 6-foot-1, 180 pound prospect. The right-handed hitting outfielder had the highest exit velocity at this event at 89 mph off the tee. He hits out of a balanced, square stance, with the hands high above the back shoulder. He uses a controlled load to get into a strong hitting position. The swing itself is flat and quick to and through the hitting zone. He stays on plane well through contact, creating a lot of hard line drives during batting practice.
Defensively, he showed a strong, quick arm in the outfield with a velocity of 86 mph on his throws. The feet are athletic as he moved into the fielding position. He breaks down behind the ball, with the glove out in front. He transitions well to the throwing position, creating a good line with the target. The arm-swing is quick and he finishes through the play with good direction.
On the mound, he creates good balance and direction to home plate with his delivery. He uses a high leg kick to gather before separating the hands.
