This young 5-foot-4, 110 pound prospect showed a fundamental skill-set at this event. The right-handed hitting infielder/catcher had an exit velocity of 65 mph off the tee. The stance is wide and square to the pitcher, with the bat resting on the back shoulder. The load is a simple shifting of the weight to the back leg and the bat raising off the shoulder. The bat takes a direct, flat path to and through the hitting zone.
In the infield, he showed good fundamentals. The feet are light and he moves well getting into a balanced fielding position. The glove is relaxed out front and he uses soft hands to begin the transition to the throwing position. He works through the ground ball nicely, creating a direct line with the target and uses a short arm-swing. He showed a velocity of 63 mph across the diamond at this event.
Behind the plate, he was 66 mph on his throws down to second base. The initial set-up is good. His feet are square, the glove is centered in the chest and he’s balanced. As he transitions to throw to second base, the feet replace and get him into a good line with the target. The hips and shoulders stay over the feet, creating a strong position to throw. His arm-swing is short and he extends through his throws with momentum heading toward second base.
I like the skill-set of this young prospect. He has a simple, quick stroke at the plate and defensively he is athletic.
