Berry is a 5-foot-9, 150 -pound, right-handed hitting infield prospect. He hits out of an open, balanced stance with the hands set just off the back shoulder. He uses a controlled knee slide to start the swing and get the weight stacked over the back shoulder. In the infield, he was 75 MPH across the diamond. The feet are athletic, he moves well laterally and showed soft hands as he worked through the ground balls. The arm works out of a short ¾ slot and he finishes through the play nicely. He also clocked a 60 time of 7.4 seconds.
On the mound, Barry showed good tempo throughout his delivery. He’s able to get to a consistent balance point, creates good direction with home plate and finishes over his front leg. the arm works out of a short, ¾ slot producing arm-side run on a fastball that sits 77-80 MPH. 5-foot-7, 140-pound left-handed hitting infielder had an exit velocity of 64 mph. The stance is slightly open and balanced. The hands are set just off the back shoulder. The load is short and gets the weight to the back side. The bat-head sweeps through the hitting zone and showed a lot of hard contact to the pull side.
Defensively, he was 72 mph across the diamond. The feet moved well as he worked to get into the fielding position. He breaks down behind the ball, with the glove relaxed out front. The hands are soft as he transitioned through the ground ball and into the throwing position. His line to the target is good and he remains in line through the play.
On the mound, I like the arm talent. He stays balanced throughout the delivery. The arm-swing is clean and his direction allows for a lot of strikes. The fastball sat 72-74 mph with some late run. I liked the breaking pitch! It was a big, sweeping pitch at 56-57 mph. He also showed the feel for a nice change-up at 59-63 mph.
Barry is an interesting young prospect. I like the arm talent and think as he continues to get more mature, he should develop into a solid prospect.
