Schutte is a projectable, young 6-foot-5, 210 pound right-handed hitting infield prospect. The former JR Futures Games participant hits out of a narrow stance with the hands set high. The load is triggered by a small leg lift, allowing the weight to stack over the back leg. The bat-head whips through the hitting zone, producing a lot of loud contact and yields the highest exit velocity of the day, 101 MPH.
Defensively, Schutte was 78 MPH across the diamond. The feet are choppy as he worked to get into a position to field. He transitions through the ground ball well and gets into a good throwing position. He finishes through the play, in line with the target and shows a quick arm.
On the mound, Schutte looks like he has tightened up his already simple delivery. Though he works primarily out of the stretch. He’s shortened his leg kick to allow himself to get balanced better at the top. As he begins down the mound, he separates well and gets good direction toward home plate, leading to more consistency within the zone. The arm works out of a higher, over the top slot, producing some late sinking action with a fastball that sits 76-78 MPH. The breaking ball has tightened up since the summer. The pitch has more of a late, downward bit and sits 65-67 MPH. The change-up is a good pitch at 67-72 MPH. The arm-speed is good, along with the action.
